Premi Poesia Marta Pessarrodona 2020

Premi Poesia Marta Pessarrodona is a poetry contest made for the young people of Terrassa / Bakoom Studio

Branding and art direction for a poetry contest… but what is poetry? How would you represent poetry?

There was this Catalan poet named Joan Brossa who liked to play with words creating visual pieces known as calligrams.

Calligrams are older than Brossa tho, we can go back to 1834 and see compositions made by the french Guillaume Apollinaire for the satirical journal "Le Charivari". Apollinaire created this term, "Calligramme" a mix of "Calligraphie" and "Déogramme".

What I am trying to say is, you know the phrase: "A picture is worth a thousand words"? Well, not always.

So, we separated the information into four lines creating an upward tilt. This logo is part of a larger poetry, from which we have extracted one of its verses.

A circular figure creates a rounded shape, and if we look further we see a medal that radiates some kind of balance- harmony, even.

And not just that, thanks to the full composition we describe graphically the last name of the poet, Pessarrodona (that means "round piece" in Catalan).

This Premi Poesia Marta Pessarrodona brand clusters important meanings into a single purposeful piece, like poetry.
